Story of a Rhode Island Thai Massage Therapist
My name is Kullawan Merola, owner of Thai Tranquility. I was born and raised in a village of north central Thailand where life is simple and relaxed.
LEAVING MY THAI VILLAGE
At age eighteen I left my tranquil village to study and work in Bangkok. No more beautiful mountains, gentle water buffalo, or lush green rice fields. Instead there were towering buildings, throngs of people, and nightmarish traffic. Life in Bangkok was a challenge. But, the challenge I faced in 1999, when I moved to America, was greater. There was English to learn, strange foods to eat, and cold winters to endure. It was difficult, but I acclimated well and was happy with the American way of life. Yet, I felt the need to stay connected to who I was- a Thai.
RECONNECTING THROUGH THAI MASSAGE
In 2001 I began working at Thai restaurants. This helped me feel reconnected (in a small way) with my Thai heritage. It also sparked within me the desire to share Thai culture with Americans. I thought traditional Thai massage would be an excellent way to do so. So, I returned to Thailand to study the ancient healing art of Thai massage.
STAYING TRUE TO THAI MASSAGE
I studied at the world renowned Wat Po where formal Thai Massage instruction originated. I returned to Rhode Island with an eagerness to share my new skills with everyone. Because I wanted people to experience an authentic Thai massage, I made two commitments. My commitments were:
- Don't mingle the ancient techniques and principles of Thai massage with Western adaptations.
- Excel by making Thai massage the only massage I practiced.
As a result, Thai Tranquility is now one of the best places in Rhode Island for Thai massage. For me, being a Thai massage therapist is rewarding. I love to see the wellness it brings to the people I serve.read reviews hereBOOK NOW
